Grab Bag Berry Blast:
I love, love, love berries… I have loved them daily ever since I learned what powerful allies they can be in the fight against dis-ease 😉
Raspberries are always part of my 4:00PM mix (along with strawberries and blueberries, sometimes blackberries… whatever can be found USDA organic).
Dr. Andrew Weil (I should start calling him Andy by now) just shared these raspberry virtues:
HERE ARE FIVE REASONS TO EAT RASPBERRIES:
THEY…..
- Are a good source of vitamin C and fiber.
- Provide folate, vitamins B2 and B3, magnesium and other essential nutrients.
- Contain ellagitannins, natural health-protective compounds that appear to have potent anti-cancer activity.
- Have considerable antioxidant activity (50% more than strawberries).
- Place in the top 15 of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition’s best antioxidant sources.
Grab Bag Toothbrush Panic:
If you haven’t heard the warning, you might have been roommates with Osama bin Laden for the last few years….
LEAVING YOUR EXPOSED TOOTHBRUSH ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR TOILET WILL INFECT IT WITH FECAL MATTER!
I’m going to cut to the chase here and tell you that it’s…..
TRUE.
BUT, how far beyond the bathroom this happens and what that really means to our health is best summarized by this segment of one of my favorite TV shows, Mythbusters. The bottom line 😆 may surprise you:
So for all of you who feel a condom is wise throughout pregnancy, head on down to the drugstore and get toothbrush covers… not that they’ll do much good, but some are entertaining…
Grab Bag Interval Plea:
I have written a few times about the proven benefits of interval training, but many friends and readers I speak with are acting like they’ve never heard this info before. I suppose they might just be ignoring the advice??? Oh, the shame.
So….. I will speak very slowly .
Let me boil this down into a tasty reduction that will leave you with just ONE THING to do tomorrow:
Go for your regular walk, run, bike, swim, hike – whatever – tomorrow (if you weren’t planning on it, promise you’ll do it the next day). After 5 minutes of a normal pace, speed WAY up, work REALLY hard, for 30 seconds, then slow down or stop. In a minute, do this again.
Keep doing this, varying the speed and the duration of the interval (or keep it the same… that’s OK too). Get in at least 8 intervals.
Complete your normal length of walk or run, but you will have accomplished much, much more. Why? Because the act of cardiac INCREASE, going from a “4” to an “9” in perceived intensity for example, has tremendous benefits for your metabolic and cardiac systems.
A truly excellent overview of the how-to’s and some inspiring, compelling, and really interesting information on the why’s is covered here on Dr. Mercola’s site – he profiles 10 minute workouts with 30 second intervals and explains all the transforming metabolic changes that take place as a result.
The top selling point might be the resulting increase in Human Growth Hormone that we all begin losing around age 30.
Just do it.
You’ll thank yourself later.

Click on the pic below to test your Earthquake savvy… it’s not quite as easy as one might think.
Thanks to Pat M. for shaking this over to me 🙂
Grab Bag iPhone Update:
For the twelve people who are still jamming their thumbs on teeny tiny Blackberry keyboards, skip this section. Just kidding. Sort of.
Seriously, many of us have iPhones. And many have the 3G or 3GS. Some may even have waited in a lawn chair on the sidewalk in front of an Apple store in Dublin (CA) Wednesday night to grab the new iPhone 4 on Thursday. If you did, let us know how it is…. when you get a life 😆
But in all the hubhub of a new holy grail, you may have missed the info that a brand new 4.0 operating system is now available for the 3G and 3GS. Go here to the Apple 4.o Software Update website to get the low-down on all the new stuff you’ll have access to. Here are a few of the new goodies you will enjoy:
Connect your phone to computer, and click on your phone in the left hand column of the iTunes screen, then hit the Summary tab and look for the Check for Update or Update button on that page.
Grab Bag Brain Game:
Guys will especially go for this… they LOVE setting things on fire. This is not easy….
Grab Bag Funny Stuff:
Maybe this is just me, but I found this very funny. I’m going to have to pay more attention to what Google suggests as I type.
Be sure to click the Full Screen button in the lower right corner of the player so you can more easily read many of the things Google suggests.
